Morocco played their first international match in December 1931 in Rabat, against Spain who won 6-14. They played further matches during the year, but then Morocco did not compete again until 1967. Morocco who are nicknamed the Atlas Lions are administered by, Fédération Royale Marocaine de Rugby.

The Atlas Lions play their home games in strip of white and green shirts, with red shorts and white socks, the away strip a green shirt with white shorts and red socks. The shirt has been donned by players who feature in the Top 14 in France such as: Nicolas Benoit, Aziz Chahid Cigogne, Mounir El Hadji, Kamal Essaoui, Hamid Arif and the best known Djalil Narjissi.

Competition

Morocco's bid to qualify for the 2007 world cup in France kicked off in June 2006 in pool 2 of round 2 of the Africa’s qualifying tournament. They defeated Uganda 36-3 in their first match, and then drew with Côte d'Ivoire 9-9. They lost 25-7 in Windhoek and 8-27 in Casablanca to Namibia. Morocco went on to the Repechage Round as Africa 2, to play Europe 4 and Portugal who won the home and away series.
